Growing up surrounded by systemic oppression, I found myself navigating the shadows of injustice without ever being equipped to identify or understand them. It wasn't until a college class shed light on the historical roots of these issues that I began to fully understand the complexity of inequity. After seeing and experiencing the negative impacts of miseducation about race, gender, and a general lack of awareness about how our society became so unequal, I became dedicated empowering others through education on social justice issues—a dedication that still defines my work today.
My goal was, and still is, to teach people everything they're not supposed to know, which is now more important than ever in our current climate of DEI bans and attacks on truth-telling education. With a focus on anti-Blackness, patriarchal violence, and environmental justice, I strive to shed light on the interconnected systems of oppression that shape our world.
Throughout my professional journey, I have been deeply committed to unraveling hidden truths through education. I'm also passionate about preserving and amplifying marginalized voices through oral history. Without us telling our own stories, our experiences will be distorted and erased.
My journey, rooted in personal experience and professional evolution, fuels my dedication to advancing social justice through the power of storytelling and historical preservation. I currently serve as a professor of liberal arts at Columbus College of Art & Design, as well as a community social justice educator, consultant, and oral historian.
